Mary, the eldest daughter and first of nine children of George Baldwin and Eliza Amidown was born in 1842 at Dorset, Vermont.
In 1850, Mary was 8 years of age and living with her parents George (38 years, occupation ) and Eliza A. (35 years) and siblings Sarah (7 years), Augusta (5 years), Daniel (3 years), Pamelia (2 years), John (10 Months) and Eliza's widowed mother Sarah Amidon [sic] (65 years, b. Vermont) and a Minerva Hathaway (18 years, b. RI).[1]
