Hugh was born on 6th Sep 1769, in Stewarton, Ayrshire to parents Jacobus James Barclay (abt.1734-1799) and Margaret Brown (1734-1781) [1]
He married Margaret Alexander on 1st Feb 1798 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire [2]

Hugh died on 28th Sep 1819 in Stewarton, Ayrshire [3]
