Biography

Daughters of the American Revolution
William Barker is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A006136.

William Barker, son of James Barker and Elizabeth Tucker, was born in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, 7 Sep 1716.[2] Settled by Europeans in about 1652 and named for the town of the same name in Devon, England, the town of Dartmouth hugs the southern coast of modern Massachusetts, bordered on the north by Fall River, east by New Bedford, west by Westport and south by Buzzard's Bay.[3]

In Dartmouth, 1 Jan 1747, William married, first, Hannah Wood, daughter of Jonathan and Peace Wood of Dartmouth.[5] William and Hannah had three known children: : Peace, born 26 May 1748,[6] James, born 8 Jul 1750,[7] and Hannah, born 9 May 1752, and who died before age 2.[8]

William married, second, 29 Jan 1756, Amy Wood, daughter of William Wood and Amy (Clarke) Wood, late of Middletown.[9] William and Amy had four known children: John, born 9 Mar 1758,[10] Caleb, born 6 Apr 1760,[11] William, born 23 Oct 1761,[12] and Amy, born 13 Dec 1763.[13]

William died in Dartmouth, 11 Jan 1796, at age 79.[14]

The DAR states he as too old to have served in the Revolutionary War. A very old record was once approved perhaps mistaking service of his son by same name...

Barker-12169 and Barker-8924 appear to represent the same person because: William Barker, son of James and Elizabeth. Married Hannah, the Amey. Resided in Dartmouth.
