James F. Barrow was born in Sep 1845 in Alabama.[1]
He was the NOT the son of Absalom Barrow as Absalom died at least five years before he was born. So he would have been the son of Absalom's last wife Lavinia and an unknown father[2][3] as the 1880 census lists Hillard Barrow as his brother, so they would have been half brothers.[4] Y DNA testing a direct male descendant of James F. Barrow would determine his biological surname and if he does match the Barrows as this line has been Y DNA tested already in the Barrow Y DNA Project at Family Tree DNA (FTDNA).
James married wife Susan E. Purvis[5] in 1874[4][1] and the couple had the following known children:
Sarah Ellen[6] Barrow was born in Alabama about 1875.[4] She died 12 Sep 1943 in Flomaton, Escambia County, Alabama.[6]
Joseph Douglas[5] Barrow was born in Alabama in Jan 1883.[1] He died in Flomaton, Escambia County, Alabama on 18 Oct 1970.[5]
William C.[7] "Willie" Barrow was born in Feb 1884 in Alabama.[1] He died 03 Jun 1961 in Flomation, Escambia County, Alabama.[7]
Pinkie M. Barrow was born in Jul 1886 in Alabama.[1]
Otis Barrow was born in Apr 1888 in Alabama.[1][8][9]
Bessie Barrow was born in Oct 1889 in Alabama.[1][8]
Ira G.[10] "Orrie" Barrow was born in Oct 1895 in Alabama.[1][8] he died 26 Jul 1951 in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama.[10]
From 1880 to 1910 the family lived in Pollard, Escambia County,[4][1][8] Alabama but by 1920 they have moved to Creamer's Mill, Escambia County, Florida.[9]
James died 30 Apr 1934 and he and Susan are buried in Rock Cemetery, Flomaton, Escambia County, Alabama.[11][9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
