Biography

Lulu Amy Bawn was born on December 6, 1885 to James Bawn and Julia Younker in Iowa, USA.

According to Ancestry.com's Iowa US Births and Christening Index (transcript only), Lulu Amy Bawn was born on 6 Dec 1885 in Grundy, Iowa. Her parents were listed as James Aubrey Bawn and "Julia Amy Yonicker". FHL Film No. 1035164.[1]

On November 24, 1904, Lulu A. Bawn, age 18, married George H. Nelson in Parkersburg, Beaver Twp., Grundy County, Iowa. George was 28 years old. [2]

Lula Amy (Bawn) Nelson can be found on the 1910 US census for Albion, Butler County, Iowa , along with her husband George H. Nelson, and their daughter, Ena Marie.

Lulu Nelson can be found on the 1920 US census for Albion, Butler County, Iowa with her four children, Ena, Everette, Ira, and Hugh. The census taker has a note by her name to "see 100", referring to line 100 on the previous page of the census, where her husband, George H. Nelson's information can be found. The "separation" appears to be inadvertent. George is placed with the rest his family on the chart below. On the original census, George is enumerated on the previous page, immediately following the household of Lulu's sister Edna Lois Bawn Nelsen and her husband, Ahrendt. Circumstantial evidence suggests that George H. Nelson and Ahrendt Nelson (or "Nelsen") may have been brothers, both born in Michigan; both sons of Nels Nelson ("Niels Nielsen") who immigrated from Denmark.

According to an unpublished genealogical record entitled "The Jeremiah Younker Family" [5], which was co-written by Lulu's aunt Ella (Younker) Caul, Lulu died in June of 1920. No death records have been found, but Lulu's husband George married to Minnie Belle Hyde on June 22, 1921, which supports the date of Lulu's death. [6]

Notes

Lulu's sister, Edna L. Nelson married Ahrendt Nelson, who also appears on the 1920 US census, right before Lulu's husband, George. Both Ahrendt and George were born in Michigan, and both have a mother and father born in Denmark. Their proximity, marriage to sisters and similar names (although one is sometimes spelled "Nelsen"), make it seem possible, if not probable that Ahrendt and George are brothers. Ahrendt's father, Nels, is living in his household.

Ahrendt Nelson, Male, age 35, Married White, Head, born about 1885 in Michigan. Father born Denmark; Mother born Denmark
Edna L Nelson, Female, age 36, Married, White, Wife, born about 1884 in Iowa. Father born Wisconsin; Mother born Pennsylvania
Nels Nelson, Male, age 71, Widowed, White, Father, born about 1849 in Denmark; Immigrated to US in 1871. Father born Denmark; Mother born Denmark [7]

George H. Nelson died on July 2, 1958 in Cisco, Eastland County, Texas. His birth date is given as February 18, 1876, in Big Rapids, Michigan. His parents are listed as Nels Nelson and Meta Ahrendt. [8]
