This woman is NOT the North Carolina woman who married a different man named Joseph Proctor in Orange County, North Carolina in 1799. That woman was Dicy Owen Proctor, she had no connection to this Cherokee woman or her husband. Do not merge.

Biography

Nancy was Cherokee.

Nuche, also called Nancy, was born about 1795 in the Cherokee Nation. She was the daughter of Jack Bearpaw and Jar Wah Ee Gah Garwick. [1] She married Joseph Proctor about 1815. The 1835 Cherokee Census shows a family of eleven living in what is now Cobb County, Georgia. [2] They were Removed to Indian Territory. The 1851 Drennan Roll lists Joe, Nancy, and children Oo-loo-ta-kee, Loo-see, Tah-chur-see , Ar-te-tus-char, and Wolf Rising living in the Skin Bayou District. [3] Daughter Lucy named her siblings on her Eastern Cherokee application as Sawney, Aky, Sallie, William, To-tas-kah, and Dave. She also gave their names as Oo-la-ta-kee, Dah-chur-see, Sawney, and George. [4]

Her death date is unknown.
