Biography

Nancy was Cherokee.

Nuche, also called Nancy, was born about 1795 in the Cherokee Nation. She was the daughter of Jack Bearpaw and Jar Wah Ee Gah Garwick. ^[1] She married Joseph Proctor about 1815. The 1835 Cherokee Census shows a family of eleven living in what is now Cobb County, Georgia. ^[2] They were Removed to Indian Territory. The 1851 Drennan Roll lists Joe, Nancy, and children Oo-loo-ta-kee, Loo-see, Tah-chur-see , Ar-te-tus-char, and Wolf Rising living in the Skin Bayou District. ^[3] Daughter Lucy named her siblings on her Eastern Cherokee application as Sawney, Aky, Sallie, William, To-tas-kah, and Dave. She also gave their names as Oo-la-ta-kee, Dah-chur-see, Sawney, and George. ^[4]

Her death date is unknown.
