  1. Spencer Wesley Stubblefield (six children)[2]
  2. Johnnie Johnson (four children)
  3. Johnnie Benjamin

In 1900 she was living with husband Wesley Stubblefield and two children in Houston County, Texas.[3]

In 1910 she was living with husband Johnny Johnson Jr, with 6 of her children with Wesley Stubblefield and a new baby with Johnny Johnson Jr.[4]

In the 1940 census Flossie (age 56) was the wife of John Benjamin Houston, Texas. It was just the two of them in the household.[6]

Research Notes

On Season 1, Episode 7 of the PBS show Finding Your Roots her granddaughter Ruth (Stubblefield) Simmons recalls that Flossie used to visit with members of a white Beasley family and there were family rumors that Flossie was related to them. Flossie's father was enumerated as Mulatto in the 1870, 1880, and 1910 US Censuses and Ruth shares DNA with a descendant of (white) Charles Beasley who was likely the slave owner of Flossie's father. (Flossie's mother was also enumerated as Mulatto in the 1870, 1880, and 1910 US Censuses.)[9]
