Biography

John was born on January 1809 in Virginia and a son of Joseph Beathe Barbara Moomaw. Daniel Pricer was appointed guardian for Margaret, John, James, Joseph, Catherine and Aaron, minors and legal representatives of Joseph Beathe on April 30,1821 in Ross County, Ohio. John married Ann Killough on October 15,1833 by Edward Mitchell in Ross County, Ohio. By 1850, he had moved his family to Licking Township, Blackford County, Indiana. He passed away on January 29,1885 and buried in the Elizabethtown Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Delaware County,Indiana .[1]

When John Beath was born on 18 January 1809, in Virginia, United States, his father, Joseph Beath, was 31 and his mother, Anna Barbara Moomaw, was 25. He married Ann Killough on 24 October 1833, in Ross, Ohio, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Licking Township, Blackford, Indiana, United States in 1850. He died on 29 January 1885, in Indiana, United States, at the age of 76.

First Election

1839 -- The first election was held in June 1839, and the election board used the Boggs' coffee pot as a ballot box. there was a population of approximately 400 in the county, and it was said that at this first election there was great unanimity among the mases. As a result of the election, Jacob Brugh was chosen to serve as Clerk, auditor and recorder; Jacob Emshiville was elected treasurer; Frederick Bell became sheriff; and Josephus Streeter, Jacob Shroyer and Eli Rogdon were elected as a board of commissioners. Governor Wallace also commissioned JOHN BEATH to serve as Justice of the Peace.

Infirmary

1871 -- Blackford County Infirmary --- The move to the current location south of Hartford City in Licking Township took place with the purchase of 240 acres from JOHN BEATH form$10,00 in 1871. the existing frame house was replaced with the current brick structure in 1916.
