Ingaby was born in 1842 in Lewis County, Virginia (in what is present day West Virginia). She was the daughter of Asa Bee and Hannah Maxson. Her father was a Seventh Day Baptist minister and the family were possibly living in Lewis County for a church assignment at the time Ingaby was born [speculation]. Her family had soon settled in Berea in nearby Ritchie County. Ingaby grew up on the family farm there. In 1868 at the age of 26, she married Civil War veteran Robert N. Doak in Ritchie County, West Virginia. The couple settled to farm in the Centerville area in Deep Valley, Tyler County close to the county line with Doddridge County. They lived out their lives there, raising a family of five children, at least three of whom became teachers. Her husband Robert died in 1915. Ingaby died two years later in 1917 and is buried together with her husband in the Arnolds Creek Cemetery in Greenwood, West Virginia.

Death record? Although one source cites 1918 as the death year, the year reported on her gravestone is used here pending a death record to confirm.
Margaret is sometimes cited as a middle name probably due to the 1880 census which reported it as her name.
