Biography

James E Belcher was born on 4 Aug 1893 in Missouri, son of Charles Mitchell Belcher and Ada Eudora Maupin.

The 1900 Census[1] shows him at age 6 in the home of his parents in Prairie Township, Montgomery County, Missouri. He attended school for 6 months during the census year.

The 1910 Census[2] shows him at age 16 in the home of his parents in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, Missouri.

His World War I Draft Registration Card,[3] signed on 5 Jun 1917, shows him working as a farm laborer for his father, Charles Belcher. He states that his right eye is bad. He is described as tall and medium build with blue eyes and dark hair. He has a broken arm.

His Veterans Administration record states: "Discharged from draft" and shows an enlistment date 25 Jul 1918 and a discharge date 1 Aug 1918 from Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.[4]

James married Leona Smith on 12 Feb 1919 in Montgomery County, Missouri.[5] It does not appear that they had children.

The 1930 Census[6] shows him at age 36 with his wife in St. Charles, Saint Charles County, Missouri. He is a mechanic in a garage.

The 1940 Census[7] shows him at age 46 with his wife in Bellflower, Bear Creek Township, Montgomery County, Missouri. He is an automobile garage operator.

His World War II Draft Registration Card[8] shows him living and working in Bellflower, Montgomery County, Missouri. He is self employed in a garage. The "person who will always know your address" is his wife, Mrs. Edward Belcher. He is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 200 pounds, with blue eyes, brown hair, a ruddy complexion, and a scar on his right hand.

The 1950 Census[9] shows him at age 56 with his wife, mother, and mother-in-law in Prairie Township, Montgomery County, Missouri. He is a carpenter.

James died on 22 Mar 1964 in Bellflower, Montgomery County, Missouri,[10] [11] and is buried at the Bellflower Cemetery, Bellflower, Montgomery County, Missouri.[12]
