Biography

John was baptized on 8 October 1727 at Strachan Parish in Kincardineshire, Scotland, the son of David Bell of Cammie.[1] Looking in Kincardineshire between 1740 and 1800, we find children baptized with father John Bell only at Strachan and only betwen 1751 and 1773, consistent with a single family group (with a little uncertainty about the gap between the eldest child William bap. 1751 and the next, John, bap. in 1758). These children are:

  • William bap. 18 August 1751
  • John bap. 7 April 1758
  • Jean bap. 23 March 1760
  • Andrew bap. 3 November 1762
  • David bap. 28 October 1764
  • Andrew bap. 26 April 1767
  • Isaac bap. 29 September 1769
  • James bap. 15 May 1773

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
