Ethel Mae (Belmore) Starkey was born in Idaho.

Ethel Mae Belmore Starkey was born 14 June 1914 in Glenns Ferry, Idaho to Ernest Linwood Belmore and Florence May Newcomb. She graduated from Glenns Ferry High School. She then attended Lewis and Clark Normal School. She started teaching grades 1-12 in Banks, Idaho in a one room schoolhouse. After leaving Banks, she moved to Boise, Idaho and started working as a secretary. That is where she met her husband, Kenneth Allen Starkey (1916-1971).^[1] Ethel and Kenneth married in 1938 in Boise, Idaho. They moved to Glenns Ferry, Idaho in 1942 and she resumed teaching, grades 1-5. Ethel retired from the Glenns Ferry County School District in 1976.^[2]
