Biography

John was born in 1841. He was the son of Aaron Bishop and Rebecca Gertridge.

He married 19 Nov 1862, Lavinia West. They had 8 children.

In 1871, John E., farmer, 30, Lavinia, 28, Willard M., 7, Frank E., 5 and Brenton D., 2, were residing in Kentville.

In 1881, J. Edwin, farmer, 40, Lavinia, 38, Willard M., farmer’s son, 16, Brenton, 12, Lena L. R., 10, Percy, 8, Jessie, 5 and Alice R., 2, were residing in Kentville.

In 1900, John E., carpenter, 59, Lavinia, 58, Jessie B., 22 and Athel [sic] M., 13, were residing in Boston, Massachusetts. The census showed the entire family was born in Canada and that Lavinia was the mother of 8 children, all living.

In 1910, John E., retired, 69, Lavinia, 67, Ethel M. Stoddard, 22, Jeremiah Stoddard, carpenter, son-in-law, 25 and Charles I. Stoddard, grandson, 4, were residing in Stoughton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts in 1910. His son Allen P. Bishop was residing nearby.

He passed away in 1916 and is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego County, California.^[1]

His obituary appeared in the 28 Oct 1916 edition of the Evening Tribune mentioning his wife Lavinia Bishop, sons Willard M Bishop, Franklyn E Bishop, Percy A Bishop and daughters Mrs Ethel Stoddard, Mrs Lena Beardsley, Mrs Jessie Cook and Mrs Carrie Belyea.
