George Dolbeare Bishop was born 7 Jul 1770 in New London, Connecticut. He was the son of Eleazar Jr. and Susanna Whipple.
On 24 Mar 1794 he married Jane Burbidge. She was born 13 Jan 1775 at Comwallis Township, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, the daughter of Henry and Hannah (Bishop) Burbidge. She died 1862 at Pictou, Nova Scotia.
According to Tangled Roots, "He was named after George Dolbeare (1717-1772), a native of Wales and a fine worker in brass and pewter. During May 1776 his father passed away. The American Revolution was in progress, so young George was cared for by the Dolbeare family. He came from Connecticut to Horton about 1783 to live with his cousin John Bishop (John, Eleazar). He lived for some years in Gaspereau where he purchased considerable land as the records in the Registry of Deeds at Kentville, N.S. show. Jane’s mother was the daughter of George’s cousin John. Many of the descendants of George Dolbeare Bishop are now living in and about Dorchester, N.B."
George Bishop of Horton wrote his Last Will and Testament, leaving his estate to his wife Jane. The will was proved 23 Aug 1820.[1]
George died 7 Aug 1820 at Horton and is buried in the Melanson Cemetery, Wolfville, Kings Co.
