Nathan Turley married Maria (Black) Ballard about 1838.[2][3] Baptist Minister William Adkins Ed., was the officiant. We know that this was Maria's second marriage because in the wedding of her first child, Margaret Ballard, it states that Nathan Turley was her step-father.[4] Nothing is known about her first husband other than his last name of Ballard.
Eliza (Turley) Beach, on her Certificate of Death, gives her mother's maiden name as Black, to wit: Name of Father, Nathan Turley. Maiden Name of Mother, Mirah Black.[5]
Noah Turley, Sr.'s Certificate of Death lists his father and Mother as Nathan Turley (born in Orange County, VA) and Marier Black.[6][7]
