Buford was born in 1866 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. His parents were James Madison Bly and Margaret (Stover) Bly. [1]
In 1870 he was 6 and living in Virginia. This census is split over two pages. On this page is Buford and 3 sisters. [2] His parents, James and Catherine, and brother Nathan are on prior page. [3]
He was about ten years old when his family moved to Parker County, Texas.
In 1880 he was 14 and living with his parents and siblings in Texas. [4]
He married Margie Osgood in 1886 [5] and lived first in Taylor County, Texas, where he did farm work, later lived in Nolan County and finally settled at Big Spring in Howard County.
In 1900 they were living in Texas with four children. [6]
In 1920 they were living in Texas with 2 sons. [7]
In 1930 they were living in Texas with 2 adult children. [8]
For about five years between 1926 and 1931 he and Margie lived in Fort Worth, where he worked as a carpenter, but then returned to Howard County, where he remained the remainder of his life.
It is reputed that he was a Methodist minister for many years but this has not been verified.
In 1940 he was 73 and living with his wife Marjory in Texas. [9]
