Death of Mrs. J. F. Powell

Deep regret was expressed throughout the district on Monday when it was known that Mrs. Elizabeth Powell, wife of Mr. John F. Powell, of Jennacubbine, had died at the Northam Hospital on Sunday evening after a painful illness that had extended over a period of 14 months, during the last six of which the deceased lady had been an inmate of the hospital. The late Mrs. Powell was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. John Bonser, one of Northam's earliest settlers, and was 52 years of age. She was born in Northam, and had lived in the district the whole of her life.

When quite a young woman Miss Bonser married Mr. James Wilkins, farmer, of Jennapullin, the issue being four sons, all of whom are, or have been, on active service, viz., Privates Harry, James, William and Fred Wilkins, and one daughter (Mrs. Albert Powell). Mr. Wilkins died many years ago, and some years later his widow married Mr. J. F. Powell, there being six sons of the second marriage, viz., John, Lionel, George, Cecil, Percy and Donald Powell, the youngest being six years of age. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning, there being a large and representative gathering of friends from all parts of the district. The cortege proceeded to St. Joseph's Church, where portion of the burial service was read, and thence to the Roman Catholic portion, of the Northam Cemetery, where the remains were interred, the Rev. Father O'Donnell officiating at the graveside.

The chief mourners were Mr. J. F. Powell (husband), Private Fred Wilkins (son), Mrs. A. C. Powell (daughter), John, Lionel, George, Cecil, Percy and Donald Powell (sons), Messrs. Jas and Oliver Bonser, (brothers), George and Lionel Powell (brothers-in-law), and A. C. Powell (son-in-law).

The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. M. Carroll (Chairman of the Northam Road Board), J. H. Enright, R H. Leeson, P. Bowen, P. Enright and J. Beard.

Mr. J. W. Purslowe conducted the funeral ar rangements.

Wreaths were forwarded by the following:— Husband and family, Mr. and Mrs. O. Bonser and family, Maggie, Albert, Fred and family ; Lucy Everett and family ; Lill, Jim and family ; Mr. and Mrs. E. Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. J. Catten, Mr. and Mrs M. Woods and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Morrell, Mr. and Mrs. H. Giblett and family, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Powell and family, Mrs. P.
