Biography

Ellender Bookout was born to John Bookout and Sally Vaughn in Wayne County, Kentucky. She married Henry Bennett and together they began raising a family in Fentress County, Tennessee. By 1850 ^[1] they had moved to southwest Missouri, and five years later they became early settlers in Kansas Territory in what would become Allen County. A strong Union family, two sons fought in the Civil War. Afterward Ellender and Henry went back to Missouri, residing in Newton, Missouri in 1870. ^[2] Later they moved further east to Webster County.^[3]
