Biography

Elizabeth Boone, daughter of Israel Boone and Martha Farmer was born 28 Nov 1752 in Rowan County, North Carolina and died Aug 1817 (aged 64) in Fayette, Kentucky, United States. Burial details are unknown. ^[1] She married John Power about 1770 in North Carolina.

Elizabeth Boone, born 28 Nov 1752 in Rowan County, NC; died 1817, in Fayette Co., KY. The inventory of her estate is dated 27 Dec 1817, but the actual settlement of the estate was not completed until 1823. It amounted to $2032.56, and was divided equally among seven of her nine children, the daughter Elenor Boon having received her share in 1802 at the time of her father's death. Her husband, at the time, gave a signed receipt for her share in full. The other child, Elizabeth, is not mentioned in her mother's will so it is presumed that she had died before her mother did.

Elizabeth Boone married, presumably about 1770, John Power, Jr., (b. about 1748 in Virginia; died 1802 in Fayette Co., KY), son of John Power, Sr., and wife Mary, who had moved from Virginia to Rowan Co., NC sometime previous to 1768, as he was named in the list of Tithables in Rowan Co. that year.

John and Elizabeth Power and family moved to Fayette Co., KY in 1780-81. They became members of the Particular Baptist Church which was organized at Bryan's Station in 1785. According to Fayette Co. tax records, John Power had 100 acres of first class land on Elkhorn Creek. He appears on the earliest available tax records (1787) until 1802, when he is listed as deceased. His wife, Elizabeth, appears on the record in 1803, and is listed until 1817 when she died.

The Committee that signed the papers distributing her estate, were William Boon, Walter Bullock and James Barnaby, the Attorney being J.C. Rodes. After settlement of all debts and obligations, she left an estate of $2032.56 and 3/4 cents which was apportioned among seven Legatees: William Powers, Mary Bryant, Patsy Powers, Susan Powers, Thomas Powers (dec'd), John Powers and Rebecca Coppage, each receiving $290.36 and 1/2 cents. Prior to distribution of the above, $40 had been paid to Thomas Sinclair who had married one of the heirs. The following was a part of the record of the Estate of Elizabeth Power:

"To pd Thomas Sinclair $20 the 30 March 1822 also $20 the 6 Sep 1822, and took his notes of them dates instead of his receipt as a part of his share of the estate, but since paying the administrator has found a rec't given by said Sinclair in full for his part of the estate bearing date 7th Oct 1802, which had the administrator have had it before he should not have paid him any more money." ^[2]
