Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Mary Box was a Virginia colonist.

Mary Box, daughter of John Box and Mary Unknown, was born about 1626 in Charles City County, Virginia. Her date of birth is estimated based on:

  • father John Box is unmarried on the Muster of January 1624/25 at Chaplains Coice, Charles City.[1] Earliest possible marriage date sometime in 1625, with possible birth of daughter Mary in 1626.

Mary Box appears in records when she records the 300 acres originally granted to her father John Box, following the presumed death of her mother, Mary Boxe:

  • Mary Box, daughter & heire of John Box, 300 acs. Henrico Co., 12 July 1637, p. 438. N. W. upon the Swife Cr. by Appamattuck Riv. near the land of Charles Magnor, now in possession of William Hayward & runing S. E. into the woods. 100 acs. due in right of her father as being an Ancient Planter & 200 acs. for trans. of her mother Mary Box & 2 servts: Tho. Neale, Edward Holland, William -------. This acreage was first recorded by her mother, Mary Boxe, in 1636 following the death of her father, John Box.[2]

Mary has not been located in records after this date.
