Biography

From Genealogical and Personal History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, page 353, "... Robert, son of William Boyd, was born in Bullskin township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, where he was educated and grew to manhood. After his marriage he settled in Menallen township, where he became a prosperous farmer and a leading citizen. He was one of the associate judges of Fayette county, appointed in 1841, serving until 1845. He married and had issue, including a son William."

Obituary from the "Genius of Liberty," February 14, 1856: "DIED, on the 6th inst., at his residence in New Salem in the 75th year of his age, the HON. ROBERT BOYD. This venerable and excellent man has gone from our midst full of years and deeply lamented by all who knew him. His earthly remains were followed to their resting place by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. All remember with lively interest his many virtues, his warm hearted friendship and generous hospitality, his frank and honorable bearing in all the intercourse of life. He was for many years a member of the Presbyterian church and his latter end was a peaceful and edifying illustration of his christian faith and hope. He will be greatly missed in the community of which he has been long a useful honorable and esteemed member."
