Biography

Charles Elsworth Boyd was the youngest child of Woodward A. Boyd and Elizabeth Fisher. He was born in 1866 in Berkeley County, West Virginia. He married Martha Ellen Hinton in Jefferson County, West Virginia in 1888. They had four known children. Charles died in 1932 in Winchester, Virginia and was buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia. ^[1]

CONT Charles Ellsworth Boyd, 66, member of an old and well-known Frederick county family, died late last night at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Miller, No. 519 North Cameron street, with whom he had been residing some years. CONT Death, which came at 10 minutes of 12 o'clock, was due to a complication of ailments from which Mr. Boyd had been suffering for quite a long time. However, he was confined to his bed only about two weeks. He was a carpenter by trade, and worked regularly up until a short time ago. He was employed by Lewis Pearson, well-known Winchester building contractor, and was regarded as a highly capable and efficient craftsman. CONT Native of County CONT Mr. Boyd was a son of the late W. A. and Elizabeth Boyd, of Frederick county, and was born in the year 1866. He spent his early life on the farm, and later learned the carpenter trade, which he followed the remainder of his life. He was a member of the United Brethren Church, and was deeply interested in the welfare of historic old Red Bud Church in the county. He had a wide circle of friends in the city and county who deeply regret his passing away. CONT Mr. Boyd married Miss Martha Ellen Hinton, of Jefferson county, W. Va. in 1888. She died here November 30, 1923. Surviving him are three sons, Ernest C. Boyd, of Washington, D. C.: Harry W. Boyd, of Winchester and Strother H. Boyd, of Red Bud: one daughter Mrs. Maude L. Miller, of Winchester; one sister, Mrs. H. F. Kerns, of this city, and three brothers, William A., Robert L. and Levi P. Boyd, of Frederick county. He leaves also 10 grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces. CONT Funeral Sunday CONT The funeral will take place from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, No. 519 North Cameron street, at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, services being conducted by his pastor, the Rev. George W. Stover, assisted by the Rev. H. Eugene Richardson, a former pastor of the local United Brethren Church, but now of Reliance, Va. Interment will be in the family lot in Mount Hebron Cemetery. CONT Active pallbearers will be H. P. Boyce, M. Lohr Capper, Philip Klompus, John M. Fishpaw, L. D. Grubbs and Edward Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be M. V. B. Snoke, C. B. Organ, Harry Brill, John C. Fosbrink, Lewis W. Fries and Charles A. Cross."
