Biography

Matthew was born in 1620. He was the son of Matthew Boynton and Frances Griffith. He was baptised at Barmston, Yorkshire on 16 November 1620.[1]

During the English CivilWar he initially fought with the Parliamentary forces, like his father, but in 1648 he switched his allegiance to the Royalists. He died fighting on the Royalist side in the Battle of Wigan Lane (25 August 1651) in which nearly half the Royalist forces were killed.
