James was born in 1845. He was the son of Abner Breeden and Frances Haney. On 1 Jan 1870 he married Lucinda Deane. They had one known child. It is believed they divorced and on 5 Jul 1877 he then married Amanda "Mandy" Collier. They had 7 known children. Living in Rockingham, it is here he died in 1921. It is unknown where he is buried.
Amanda Collier is shown as "Mandy Shifflett" on some of her children's death certificates. No marriage to a Shifflett has been found to date. Unclear why it appears this way.
