Phyllis (Brewer) Bonwick O.A.M. was born in Queensland, Australia

Phyllis Joyce Brewer was born in 1915 at or about Cordalba in Queensland, Australia. She was the daughter of Thomas Brewer and his wife Gladys Bailey (née Heilbronn).

Joyce Brewer was an Australian cricketer, playing for both her home state Queensland and the national side. She played two test matches for the Australia national women's cricket team against England in 1935. Joyce Brewer was credited as being the twelfth woman to play Test cricket for Australia.

In the Brisbane newspaper The Telegraph of Friday 18 October 1940, we see her Engagement Notice below:

MISS JOYCE PHYLLIS BREWER,
fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Brewer, Targo Street. Bundaberg, whose engagement is announced to Mr. Albert Bonwick, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Bonwick, Leamington Street, Deshon Estate, South Brisbane. Miss Brewer, besides representing the State in women's cricket for many years, represented Australia in 1935 against England.

On the 1st of February 1941, Phyllis Joyce Brewer married fellow athlete Albert Henry Bonwick at St. Paul's Church of England, in East Brisbane, Queensland. And from the society pages of the Brisbane newspaper the Sunday Mail of Sunday the 2nd of February 1941, we see both a wedding photograph and this Marriage Notice below:

OF interest in the sporting world was the wedding of Miss Phyllis Joyce Brewer and Mr. Albert Henry Bonwick, celebrated at St. Paul's Church of England. East Brisbane, yesterday Afternoon, for the bride and bridegroom are both well-known Brisbane athletes, and the bride has also played cricket for Queensland. Sydney is their honeymoon destination.

Joyce Phyllis Bonwick was awarded the Australian Sports Medal on 30 November 2000 for her contributions to sports administration.

Phyllis Joyce Bonwick OAM passed away in 2011 in Brisbane Australia.
