Biography

George was born 17 Oct 1866 in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois to Abraham Brewer and Rebecca (Lacey) Brewer. [1]

From 1870 to 1880, he was living with his parents and siblings in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois while his father worked as a farmer and carpenter. [2] [3]

On 1 May 1887, at the age of 19, George married Lacy Gebhart in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois. [4] George and Lacy had 11 known children:

From 1900 until at least 1906, the family was living at 514 Washington Ave in Danville, Vermilion County, IL and George was working as a candy maker. [5] [6] [7] After his wife Lacy died in 1906[8], George left Illinois for California as we find him in San Bernardino in 1910. George was working as a machinist in a garage.[9]

In Dec 1911, George married 2nd to Emma Pauline Beschoner in California. George and Emma had 1 child together:

  • Helen Ida Rebecca 1912-2002

In 1920, George and Emma were living at 225 Anheim in Los Angeles, CA and George was working as a steel cutter in the LA Ship Yards. [10] By 1922, George and Emma had moved to 2567 Elm Ave in Long Beach, CA where they lived for many years. [11] In 1924, George worked as a pumper for Henderson Petroleum Corporation. [12] and from 1925 to 1932, George continued to work in the Oil industry, but in 1933 he switched his profession and worked as a gardener. [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21]

In 1935, George worked as a laborer. It is not known if this was in the oil industry or gardening or some other kind of work. [22] In 1936, the city directory doesn't list an occupation for George. Could he have been out of work? [23] He's listed as a gardner again in 1937, but in 1939 no occupation is listed. [24] [25] In 1940, George and Emma were still at 2567 Elm Ave in Long Beach, CA, but George, at 73 years of age, was listed as unable to work. Emma was doing housework for a private family. [26] [27]

In 1941 and 1945, George was listed still on Elm Ave; however, when George passed away on 12 Nov 1945 he had been at the St Erne Sanitarium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, CA for 3 years. He was buried in Sunnyside Memorial Park Cemetery in Long Beach, CA. [28] [29] [1] [30]
