Thomas Brewer, son of Thomas Brewer and Elizabeth (Graves) Brewer, was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on May 29, 1691.[1]
Perley, in a 1908 issue of The Essex Antiquarian, indicated that the Thomas Brewer who died in Lynn on October 8, 1702 was this profile's Thomas Brewer.[2] However, that is almost certainly incorrect.
The original town record for the death of Thomas Brewer in 1702 reads:
Since the original record does not mention Thomas's parents, that indicates that the Thomas who died in 1702 was an adult.
In addition, there was a Capt. Crispus Brewer of Salem who married Ann Gardner in 1654.[3] The rarity of the name Crispus suggests that Capt. Crispus Brewer of Salem was a descendant of Crispus Brewer of Lynn. Since Crispus Brewer of Lynn only had one son, Thomas Brewer of Lynn, and this profile's Thomas Brewer is the only possible son of Thomas Brewer of Lynn who could have continued the line, this indicates that this profile's Thomas Brewer survived to adulthood and had children.
Most probably, this profile's Thomas Brewer was the Thomas Brewer who married Elizabeth Nichols in Salem on December 8, 1715[4] and had a son Thomas born in 1716,[4] and that that son Thomas (or an unrecorded brother) was the father of Capt. Crispus Brewer of Salem who married Anna Gardner in 1654.[3]
