Bessie (Breznik) Braverman migrated from Russian Empire to United States.
Biography
Basa Rivka was born June 26, 1894 in Panevėžys, Ponevezh Uyezd, Kovno, Lithuania, which was then part of the Russian Empire. Her parents were Leib Bresnick and Malka (Lipshits) Bresnick.[1]
After immigrating to the United States in 1912, she was known as Bessie.[2]
In 1915, the family's last name was incorrectly shown as Bresnik. Twenty year old Bessie and her brother Max (age 22) lived in the home of their aunt Ida (age 68) and Ida's daughter Anna (age 24). Anna and Bessie were both operators and Max was a machinist.[2]
Bessie was identified as a widow when she married Julius Braverman (shown as Juliua Brarerman) August 5, 1923 in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States[3]
and they had at least one child (see Notes).
In 1925, Julius (age 35), Bessie (age 25) and their newborn son Leon lived in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States.[4]
In 1930, the family's last name is shown as Bra*Man. Julius (age 41) and Bessie (shown as Besse, age 30) lived in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States with son Leon (shown as Lean, age 6).[5]
In 1940, Julius (age 47) and Bessie (age 36) lived in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States with son Leon (age 15).[6]
It is not known whether Bessie and Julius were ever divorced, but at some point Julius moved to California while Bessie remained in the Bronx,[7]
where she lived until her death March 28, 1995.[8]
Notes
Children
Bessie's known children were:
Leon Braverman, born July 24, 1924 in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States, died November 3, 1955, probably in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States
