Biography

Charles Brighton was born in Devon, England.

Charles, son of George Brighton and Hannah, was baptized on 27 March 1808 in Bere Ferrers, Devon, England.^[1]

Charles married Charlotte Ferris on 3 June 1831 in the parish of St. Andrew, Plymouth, Devon.^[2] They had the following known children:

In 1841, Charles was age 30 and a farmer living in "Leatches" in the parish of "Beerferris" with his wife Charlotte, seven children and two servants.^[3]

In 1851 Charles was 43 and a farmer occupying 40 acres at Leaches, Bere Ferris with Charlotte, Charles, William, George, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, John, and David.^[4]

In 1861 Charles, age 53, was living in Pepper street, Bere Ferris with Charlotte (49), Joseph (20), and his brother Oakley (49).^[5]

Charlotte died in February of 1870, and was buried in Liskeard, Cornwall.^[6] In the 1871 census, the widowed Charles was lodging at the home of John Jewell in Liskeard, Cornwall.^[7]

Charles had moved in with his daughter Sarah's family in "The Village" in Bridestowe, Devon, the 1881 census. There, he worked as a "woodsranger".^[8]

Charles died in February 1885. He was buried with Charlotte on 15 February in Dobwalls Methodist Churchyard in Liskeard, Cornwall.^[9][10][11]
