Willem was born on June 7, 1881 in Amsterdam as the son of Hendrik Barend Brinkhuijsen and Geertrui de Haan. When he was 19 years old he was eligible for military service, however he was never drafted and was told at the time of his marriage that he would not be drafted afterwards. He married Maria Vreman on September 23, 1903 in Amsterdam. With her he had 6 children:
1. Hendrik Barend Brinkhuijsen on January 6, 1904- died February 13, 1970 †
2. Besseltje Brinkhuijsen on January 6, 1905- died June 18, 1992 †
3. Geertrui Brinkhuijsen on August 4, 1906- died August 14, 1987 †
4. Sanna Brinkhuijsen on July 18, 1908- died January 3, 2006 †
5. Jan Brinkhuijsen died on October 7, 1911?
6. Maria Brinkhuijsen on June 12, 1916- died April 1, 1989 †
All in Amsterdam. During this period he worked as a warehouse worker. He was also mentioned once as a glassblower, however he is then mentioned again as a warehouse servant so we can assume that that was his primary form of income. It appears from the family that he always smoked cigars and drank a glass of young gin. His wife Maria died on March 12, 1968 in Hilversum as a result of Tuberculosis, after which he was and remained a widower. On September 9, 1968 he moved to Zuideinde 80 in Oostzaan, where a home was located at that time. During his life he only had to bury one of his children, namely Hendrik Barend, who died on February 13, 1970. Several years later he said he was not feeling well. That same day he passed away. That was on January 16, 1978 in Oostzaan. He was then 96 years old. His registration with the militia shows that at the time (19 years) he was 1.69 meters tall with blond hair and blue eyes.
