FUNERAL NOTICE. BROCKMAN.-The Friends of the late Mr. Edmund Ralph Brockman late of Herne Hill, are respectfully invited to follow his remains, to the place of interment, the Anglican Cemetery, Middle Swan. The Funeral is appointed to leave his son's (Mr. F. S. Brockman) residence, Turton-street East Guildford at 2.30 o'clock THIS (Friday) AFTERNOON.
OBITUARY. THE LATE MR. E. R. BROCKMAN. The funeral of the late Mr. E. R. Brockman, ex-M.L.C., took place yesterday afternoon, and was very largely attended. The remains were interred alongside those of the deceased gentleman's father in the family vault in the picturesque Anglican Cemetery at Middle Swan. Canon Everingham conducted the burial service, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Burton.
The chief mourners were Messrs. F. S. Brockman and Harold Brockman (sons) and Henry Brockman (brother). Other relations present were Mrs. F. S. Brockman (daughter-in-law), Mrs. Aubrey Brown (daughter), Mrs. C. D. Price (daughter), Mr. G. A. Barrett-Lennard, Messrs. Carl Brockman, Herbert and Arthur Hillman, Ralph Brown, Trevor Kingsley, Douglas, Forrest, St. Aubyn, and Septimus Barrett-Lennard (grandsons), Miss Hebe Barrett-Lennard (grand-daughter), Dr. J. W. Hackett, M.L.C., Dr. J. E. Ferguson Stewart, and C. S. Hutchinson (grandsons-in-law), Messrs. P. J. Atkins, and William and Julius Brockman.
The pall-bearers were Messrs. Septimus Burt, K.C., H. J. Johnston, James Morrison, and S. F. Moore, M.L.A. Among the large number which gathered at the graveside were Messrs. Hugh Hamersley, S. H. Viveash. C. W. Ferguson, J. Wood, Jaems de B. Morrison, H. S. King. H. E. B. Gull, H. C. Castella, Alfred Burt, Dr. Gill, G. A. Lefroy, S. A., J. O., and W. E. Brown, G. Minchin, and F. Hitchcock. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. A. Douglas Jones and Co., of Guildford and Midland Junction.
The deceased gentleman was born in England in 1828, and came to Western Australia with his father in 1830. In 1852 he married Ellen Deborah Slade (daughter of Lieutenant Fred. Slade, R.N.), who survives him. As a young man he, with his father, went through all the early pioneering hardships, and later followed the occupation of farmer and grazier. Since 1891 he has resided in the Canning district. Prior to that date he lived at Henley Park, Upper Swan. In 1900 he retired from active enterprise.
He represented the Swan electorate for a number of years in the old Parliament prior to the time when responsible government was introduced. He was further appointed a member of the first Legislative Council under responsible government. In addition, Mr. Brockmian was connected with numerous local bodies, and ever took a keen interest in their welfare. He was president of the Royal Agricultural Society for a considerable period.
The family of the deceased consisted of four daughters and two sons, 35 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Of his father's large family there are now only two survivors—Mr. Henry Brockman, of Bergala, Muchea, on the Midland Railway; and Mrs. Jones, of Bristol, England
