OBITUARY - Mrs. Mary Keevers At the age of 71 years, Mrs. Mary Keevers, relict of the late Mr. Henry Arthur Keevers, and one of the pioneers of Coramba, died in Coffs District Hospital on Sunday evening, after a lengthy and very trying illness. Deceased came here from Sydney with her husband about 40 years ago. They first settled on land known as Keen's, at Coramba, but soon afterwards went across the river and selected the property they called "Riverview" on which they resided for many years, and the members of the family were born there. Deceased was of a very kindly disposition particularly in case of sickness. For many years she nursed people in the vicinity, and many a mother at the trying period of childbirth had cause to feel grateful for her kindly, patient and expert care. Her good deeds are remembered by many, and particularly by the old hands. In June last deceased went to Sydney for a serious operation. She appeared to be very much improved in health after her return home, and remained so for about three months. About the end of November she had a fall, after which she became very seriously ill. Early in December she was admitted to Coffs District Hospital, where she remained until her death. During the whole time her condition has given cause for much anxiety, and it was apparent that she was not destined to live very long. Only her strong constitution and indomitable courage, aided by constant care, enabled her to live as long as she did. Loving and patient care was bestowed by her daughters, who in turn were with her constantly at the hospital. Mr. Keevers died in June, 1932, since when deceased has resided most of her time in Coffs Harbour. A son and four daughters survive. The son is Mr. Henry Arthur Keevers, of Wagga, and daughters of her second marriage are Mesdames W. Cornish (Karangi), W. S. Smith (Kendall), and F. R. Heskett (Woodenbong and late of Coffs Harbour). The daughter of the former marriage, with Mr. William Murphy, is Elizabeth, now Mrs. Stewart, of Sydney. The funeral was at the Catholic portion of Coffs Harbour Cemetery to day. Rev. Father Ryan conducted the service and Mr. C. H. Everingham carried out the funeral arrangements. OBITUARY (1937, February 23). Coffs Harbour Advocate (NSW : 1907 - 1942; 1946 - 1954), p. 3.
