Biography

Walter was born in 1870. He died in 1917 at the age of 46 - 47.

Parents: James Wesley Brundage 1841 - 1914 and Sarah Ett (Bronson) Brundage 1846 - 1912.

Walter was married two times.

Spouse #1: Pauline Theodosia (Barney) Brundage 1874 - 1910

Spouse #2 Angeline Maude (Barney) Brundage 1877 - 1945. They were married 5/1/1913 in Hammondsport, Steuben, New York.

According to his death certificate, Walter Wesley Brundage was born on 1/23/1870 in Pleasant Valley, NY to James W. Brundage and Sarah Bronson, both of Pleasant Valley, NY. Walter Wesley Brundage died on 9/8/1917 in Steuben County, Town of Hornellville, NY, and is buried at Pleasant Valley, NY. Walter Wesley Brundage was 47 years, 7 months, and 13 days old. The cause of death was Exhaustion due to hyperthyroidism, which he had for 6 years, and a contributory cause was inflammation from a small tumor on his chest.

Census records say that Walter's father and Walter lived in Urbana, Steuben, NY; therefore, when one searches a census, one should indicate that his birthplace and residence was Urbana. This is evidenced by the following censuses: 1875, 1880, 1892, 1905, and 1910. In familysearch.com marriage record, Q2MT-ZWZK, Walter W. Brundage said that he was born in Hammondsport, Town of Urbana, NY.

According to Helen Brundage Fisher's 1978 Family Tree: Walter Wesley Brundage (WWB) married two sisters: Pauline Theodosia Barney and Angeline Maude Barney.

According to Helen Brundage Fisher: Son of James Wesley Brundage (and Sarah Bronson Brundage, reared on James farm, graduated from Rochester Business Institute (1894), employed as cashier of the Hammondsport bank, a Presbyterian. (This is according to my Aunt Helen Brundage Fisher. However, another source says that he was a bookkeeper.) WWB had two wives, as follows: 1) Pauline Theodosia Barney and 2) Angeline Maude Barney. Pauline was a tall, slender woman with fair complexion and brown hair with striking features. Pauline was the second child of Jonothan Orlando Barney and Lenora Dexter Barney of Independence, NY (Jonothan's parents were Dr. Anthony Barney and Henrietta Horton. Lenora's parents were Daniel Dexter and Angeline Briggs). After completing Common School, Pauline secured her high school by moving to Andover and working for her room and board. Pauline graduated from Genesco State Normal. Pauline met WWB while serving as her brother Benjamin's housekeeper while he practiced medicine in Hammondsport. WWB had blue eyes and auburn hair. WWB's siblings and her mother was also read haired. They had 3 children: 1) Ralph Wesley: b. 9/18/1901, Hammondsport, NY 2) Paul Barney: b. 10/23/1903, Hammondsport, NY 3) Elizabeth Barney (Tyler), b. 6/25/1906, Hammondsport, NY

Walter married Angeline Maude Barney on 5/1/1913 b. 3/1/1877, Independence, NY d. 11/12/1945, Wellsville, NY

Walter Wesley Brundage was 42 years old when he married Angeline M. Barney, who was 36 years old.

During Pauline's last illness her sister, Angeline, came to care for the family. Angeline was the third child of Jonothan and Lenora Barney. After completing Common School she too moved to Andover to work for her room and board as she completed high school. Angeline graduated 1902 from Elmira College, during which time she lived with her uncle, Daniel Dexter, president of the Elmira Bank. Angeline, who was nicknamed, Angie, was employed as a teacher in an institution for colored children in Richmond, VA. Angeline was a short, stocky woman, bright, a book worm, an optimistic person. WWB and Angeline moved to Hornell, NY where WWB was vice president of the First National Bank. Following WWB's death of cancer, the family moved to Alfred, NY where they resided in their own home at 22 Reynolds St. They had 3 children: 4) Phillip James: b. 4/25/1914, Hammondsport, NY 5) Monroe Brundage: b. 3/4/1916, Hornell, NY 6) Helen Janette (Fisher), b. 9/23/1917, Hornell, NY

Pauline, Walter, and Angie are buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetary in Alfred, NY.

As stated in Walter Wesley Brundage's Estate Letter of Administration, when Walter Wesley Brundage died, his children were the following age: Ralph Brundage, 16 years of age. Paul Brundage, 14 years of age. Elizabeth Brundage, 11 years of age. Philip Brundage, 3 years of age. Monroe Brundage, 1 year of age. Helen Brundage, born 15 days after Walter Wesley Brundage died.
