Reuben Bryant was born on 20 Apr 1831 in Rolvenden, Kent, England. He was the son of Samuel Bryant and Sarah Stapley.[1]
When he was 6, his family migrated to New South Wales, Australia, arriving on 26 June 1838 as bounty immigrants on the SS Westminster. His parents were listed as Samuel (age 38) and Sarah (age 32) Bryant. He arrived with his siblings Mary Ann age 14, Jane age 15, William age 9 (died on voyage), and Samuel age 1.[2]
He was baptized in the LDS Church on 18 Jul 1853 at Williams River, Lower Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia.[3]
He emigrated with his family to California in 1853, and may have married firstly Susanna Barker while living there in 1860. See Research Notes.
He returned to Australia before 1862.
He married secondly Elizabeth Edwards, widow of Thomas Joice, at St. Patrick's Church, Bega, New South Wales, Australia on 8 Dec 1862.[4][5]

He died at Barbers Creek, Tallong, New South Wales, in 1897, (registered at Moss Vale)[6][7] and was buried in the Marulan Catholic Cemetery.[8]
DEATH - I regret to have to record the death of Mr. Reuben A. Bryant, of Barber's Creek, which took place on Friday last at 1.30 p.m. Deceased was 77 years of age. He had been a fettler on the Great Southern Railway at Barber's Creek for many years. The cause of death was chronic bronchitis and general decay. The funeral took place on Sunday last, when a large number of friends and relatives of deceased gathered together to pay their last tribute of respect to their old and esteemed friend. Deceased has left a wife and family of grown-up sons and daughters. The Rev. Father Donovan officiated at the grave. The remains were interred in the Roman Catholic cemetery, near Old Marulan.[9]
His family converted to the Latter Day Saints and migrated from New South Wales to California in 1853.[10] He may have married Susanna Barker Forshney Bucknell (Buckner) there in 1860.[11] A Susanna Barker (Forshney) married William Wentworth Bucknell in Merriwa, New South Wales, Australia in 1841 and had two sons, Thomas Wentworth and Arthur. William was married twice after that, lived in New South Wales, Australia, and was part of the LDS Church. Susanna may have married again to Reuben Bryant.[12] [13][14][15]
