Biography

Ellis was Cherokee.

Ellis Buffington was born about 1821 in the Cherokee Nation (East). His parents were Ellis Buffington and Lydia Wright Snow. [1] The family emigrated to Indian Territory as "Old Settlers" in 1834. [2] Ellis married Elizabeth Starr about 1842. They were the parents of Ezekiel, Susan Jane, Joshua, Ellis, Sabina, [3] Almenta, [4] and Nannie. [5] Ellis, Elizabeth, and the five oldest children appear on the Old Settler Roll, living in Going Snake District. Ellis died in 1859 and is buried at the Buffington Cemetery, Sequoyah County, OK. [6]
