Biography

Barnibus was born about 1795 according to the 1860 census but some other sources say 1798, which makes more sense in terms of his father's age. He was the son of James Burch and Salley Gillespie. He passed away in 1862. Buried on the Marvin Cason Farm in an unmarked grave on a fence row. [1] [2]

Barnibus was hanged in the "Great Hanging" at Gainesville, Texas; he had enlisted in the company of volunteers organized in Gainsville on 5/23/1861. Other victims were:

John Crisp's relationship to other men who died in the Hangings: John’s niece, Elizabeth Martha Crisp, the daughter of his brother Samuel Crisp, married Hudson John Essman who was hanged by the Citizens Court. Through his mother’s side of the family, the Matthews and Box families, John was connected to the David Miller Leffel family.

Barnabas was born about 1798. He passed away in 1862.
