Ulysses was the son of the Rev Richard Burgh.
He was educated at Trinity College Dublin. B.A. 1660, M.A. [Unrecorded], Sch 1660. [1]
He was admitted 27 September 1662 as Precentor of Emly. He was collated again on 7 October 1663.
He was instituted Dean of Emly on 23 May 1685.
The See of Ardagh was separated from that of Kilmore on the deprivation of Bishop Sheridan in 1681. Ulysses Burgh was appointed as Bishop of Ardagh, by patent dated September 8th, 1692; and was consecrated at Christ Church, Dublin, on September 11th, by the Archbishop of Dublin. He died, at Castleforbes, before the close of the year. After his death the see of Ardagh was again united to Kilmore, and so continued until 1742, when it was united to Tuam. But in 1833 an Act passed, perpetually uniting it to Kilmore, as in former times.
Ulysses married Mary Kingsmill, daughter of Colonel William Kingsmill of Ballinbeg Abbey, County Cork, in 1663.[2]
