Biography

Thomas Butt was born on December 10, 1705, in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George's, Maryland.^[1] He was the son of Richard and Mary Butt.^[2]

In 1732, he married Sophia Duvall in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George's, Maryland.^[3] They had four children - Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward.

Thomas died intestate sometime before May 1757 (when two of his sons transacted realty and referred to their "late father.") In September 1757, Sophia is named Administrator of her late husband's estate. She remarried in March 1758, and her new husband is made Administrator of Thomas' estate. An inventory of the estate is prepared, and the estate is appraised in August 1758 by kinsman George Medcalf. On November 17, 1758, an account of the estate was filed "by Thomas Baldwin who married the widow of Thomas Butt, late of Prince Georges County, deceased", showed tobacco valued at $30/2/8 paid to "Robert Tyler who married Mary one of the daughters of the deceased" the same amount to "Thomas Butt and Edward Butt their proportional share of their father's estate", and the same amount to "Joseph Perry who married Elizabeth one of the daughters of the deceased".^[2]

(Book DD pg 2-526) ---- wife married to Thomas Baldwin 18 Mar 1758 Sophia Baldwin recorded the inventory of the estate of Thomas Butt in Prince George's Co, Maryland (Book DD pg 2-540) . Estate was appraised 18 Aug 1758 by kinsman George Medcalf.
11 May 1758. Thomas Baldwin named administrator of the estate of Thomas. (Book DD pg 6-270) Prince George's Co, Maryland.
17 Nov 1758. Thomad was born in 1705. He passed away in 1757.
