Lewis Marcus Cagle was born on 30 Oct 1871 in Pickens, Georgia, United States, son of Peter Cagle (1844–1895) and Martha Emeline Carpenter (1849–1944). ^[1]

Lewis (22) married Rosa Mahacy Townsend (24) (born on 16 May 1870 in Tate, Pickens; daughter of Samuel Hood Townsend and Susan Catherine Morris) on 9 Aug 1894 in Pickens. Their children were:
