Biography
This profile is part of the Calhoun Name Study.
Catharine Jane Calhoun was born on 11 October 1838, daughter of John Calhoun (1788–1842) and Sarah Anne Buchanan (1792–1862). Her family moved from Cumberlan County, North Carolina to Clarke County, Alabama in the late 1830s. It is uncertain whether she was born before or after the move.[1]
Catharine was listed as the "female under five" in her father's household in the 1840 census of Clarke County, Alabama.[2] She sent her entire childhood in Clarke County.[3][4]
Catharine and Robert James Anderson were married on 31 December 1868 in Clarke County.[5] Robert was born on 24 December 1847 in Clarke County. He was the son of Joseph William M. Anderson and Nancy Coreen McClure. They had four children together:
- Cora Anderson (1870-1963)
- Jesse Cornelius Anderson (1872-1949)
- Angus Arthur Anderson (1875-1893)
- Henry Harvey Anderson (1878-1946)
In 1870, they had a farm in Jackson, Clarke, Alabama. Their daughter Cora was three months old at the time of the census.[6]
Five years later, they had moved to Freestone County, Texas. They were farming there in the 1880 census.[7]
In 1900, Catharine and Robert were living in Justice Precinct 8, Leon County, Texas. [8]
In 1910, Catharine and Robert J Anderson were in Midlothian, Ellis, Texas. [9]
Catharine died on 26 April 1913 in Smithville, Bastrop, Texas, aged 74. She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Smithville, Bastrop County, Texas.[1]
