Andrew Callander was born in Falkirk on 15 December 1888 and was the eldest son of Andrew Callander and Sarah Gallagher. Andrew was born before his parents were married, his birth was registered under the Gallagher or Fox surnames.[1]
Since both of his parents had been married before, Andrew grew up on East Bridge St with a mixture of younger and older siblings.[2][3]
Andrew enlisted with the 91st Foot (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) on 13 March 1906 when he was 17 years. On the 1911 census, Andrew is in the Military Hospital in Malta.[4] A medal card reveals Andrew fought in France during the First World War, however no further information is known.[5]
Andrew Callendar died of heart disease, aged 58 years, on 21 October 1947.[6]
