Biography

Rose was born on 14 June 1881, in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, to Oliver S. Caples and Virginia Preall. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1887, a man named John Blough dragged her into a stable. A Mrs. Murray saw, and her husband rescued Rose. ^[3]

In 1900, she was living at 1320 Virginia Avenue, Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, with her father and siblings. ^[2]

She died on 19 May 1904, in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. On 22 May, she was buried, in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. ^{[4] [1]}

   'Held in Default of $1,000 Bail.

   'Tuesday's Johnstown Tribune says:—

   'Mrs. Murray, of Morrellville, saw a man about 5 o'clock last evening drag a little girl into a stable. She notified her husband who quickly repaired to the stable and wrested from the vile clutches of John Blough a 6-year old daughter of Oliver Caples. The child was weeping and greatly frightened, although evidently not realizing the full extend of the danger from which she was so timely rescued. Mr. Murray took charge of Blough, who is a man apparently about 21 years of age, and escorted him before Justice Reisinger, of Morrellville, who declined to take cognizance of the case. The prisoner was then brought to Johnstown and information was made against him before Justice Tittle for assault with intent to commit a rape. A hearing was accorded him to-day. The evidence was strong as to his foul intention, and, in default of $1,000 bail, he was committed to jail for trial.'
