Elizabeth Carley was born in Wartling, Sussex, England.

Elizabeth Carley was born shortly before 31 Jan 1837 in Wartling, Sussex, England to Cornelius Carley and Mary Lloyd. She was baptised on 31 Jan 1937 at Wartling.

When she was young, she lived with her parents in Catsfield, Sussex.^{[1] [2]}

By 1861, she had left home and was living in Southwark, Surrey and working as a domestic servant.^[3] By 1861, she was living with and working as a domestic servant for Beriah Drew, a chemist. She continued living and working with this family until at least 1901.^{[4] [5] [6]}

By 1911, she had retired and was living in Hastings, Sussex as a pensioner.^[7]

Elizabeth Carley died in the second quarter of 1916 in the district of Hastings.^[8] She was 78 years old.
