Biography

James Casey was born in Ireland.

James was born in 1888. He was the son of Patrick Casey and Catherine Delaney.^[1][2][3] He passed away before his brother David who died on 7 Sep 1969.^[4]

Research Notes

There is a death recorded for a James Casey on 12 Apr 1964 age 74.

This gives an imputed birth year of 1890 and with a margin of error of +/- 3 years is certainly a possible death of this Patrick Casey. However, the record shows he was from Caherulla, which, although in the Ballyheigue parish, it is not the expectd townland of Maulin.

There were three other boys named James Casey born in that range of years: 2 Apr 1889, 20 Jan 1890, 30 Jul 1890, and 26 Jun 1887. The first one was from Glendahalan in Ballyheigue and with that in mind we see a James Casey from Caherulla (matching the death record) marrying a Bridget Lucid from Glandahalan on 3 Mar 1908. His age was 19 (imputed birth year of 1889 matching the boy born that year in Glandhalan). This James and his wife Bridget do show in the 1911 census - making it clear that this is not the son of Catherine Delaney who shows up in the 1911 census as single and living with his mother.

Although the 1964 could could be for John Casey, son of Patrick Casey and Catherine Delaney, it is not certain and not even probable. That death is almost certainly for the James who married Bridget Lucid.

We know little of James after the 1911 census other than his brother's obituary listing him as deceased before that date. We do not know whether he married or whether he emigrated (a common explanation of a lack of a vital records in Ireland).
