Biography

Sidney F Cate was born in 1871 in Justin, Denton County, Texas. Parents were David Cate and Anne Boals 1880 Census shows Sidna F with his parents, David and Anne Boals Cate. [1]

In May 15, 1896 a tornado struck Justin, Texas. The Cate family had a storm cellar, which they always took refuge in. This time it was good they did. With all safe, Sydney's dad, David Cate stood at the door watching the progress of the storm until the last minute, he closed the door. Mary Cate remembered the tornado blew the remains of their house on top of the cellar door. The men staying in the train station were safe in the remaining half of the station. They went through town, uncovering storm cellar doors and aiding the people. Most of the town and the school were destroyed. The twister/tornado twisted the railroad tracks. In 1900 Census Sidney F is living in nearby Decatur, Wise County, Texas as boarder.[2]He was the son of David Cate and Anne Boals.

Sidney married Minnie Alice Fanning. [3] Children were:

Sidney passed away in March 3, 1936. The death certificate reflects his occupation was listed as laborer and cause of death at 64 yrs and some months due to arteriosclerosis and brain hemorrhage.
