On May 23, 1942, The 8th Naval Construction Battalion officially came into existence. It started with 1079 men and 32 officers who volunteered for service after the Attack on Pearl Harbor. In order to induce highly skilled construction workers to give up their civilian jobs, the US Navy rates were offered to volunteers for Seabee duty.

  • June 1942: Camp Allen
  • June 1942: Bremerton Naval Yards
  • July 1942: Camp Mears (Unalaska/Dutch Harbor)
  • August 1943: Camp Parks
  • September 1943: Iroquois Point
  • September 1943: Red Hill Naval Yard
  • February 1945: Iwo Jima
