Lavant was settled in 1828 Dalhousie in 1820 and North Sherbrooke in 1821 while Dalhousie was surveyed in 1820, Lavant in 1822 and North Sherbrooke in 1821. North Sherbrooke in 1820 was named after Sir John Coape Sherbrooke, In 1823 Lavant was named from a village in Sussex England, while in the same year Dalhousie was named after George Ramsay Earl of Dalhousie. In 1850 the United Township of Dalhousie, Sherbrooke North and Lavant was formed and they remained together till 1883 when Lavant separated. In 1974 Lavant reunited with them.
