The Province of Monza and Brianza, (Italian: Provincia di Monza e della Brianza), is located in the Lombardy region, Italy. It was officially created by splitting the north-eastern part from the province of Milan on 12 May 12 2004, and became executive after the provincial elections of 6 and 7 June 2009. It has an area of 405 square kilometres (156 sq mi), that is one of the smallest provincial territories of Italy and a population of about 0.9 million, with a population density of more than 2,000 people per square kilometre, given by its heavily urbanized territory that is part of the urban area of Milan. The capital and most important commune is Monza.
