Effie L. Cawelti was the daughter of David Cawelti and Mary Emeline (Fay) Cawelti of Hueneme, California, and the twin sister of Edith L. Cawelti, with whom she was living at Hueneme in 1900 with her birth date shown as July 1880.[1] Her death records say she was born on 8 May 1887.[2][3]
Effie Cawelti continued to live with her parents into the 1930s. In 1910, the family was living at Oxnard, California, and Effie was recorded as 21 years old, working as a cook for a private family.[4] They were back at Hueneme in 1920, and Effie was recorded as 30 years old.[5] They were still at Hueneme in 1930, and with Effie was shown as 42 years old and working as a packer in a citrus packing house.[6]
In 1940, Effie was living at Hueneme with her sister, Lucy Emeline Cawelti , and two of their adult nephews, sons of their sister Edith L. (Cawelti) Schultz, at Hueneme and Effie and Lucy were both employed as graders at a lima bean packer.[7] A photograph of Effie and Lucy Cawelti with other women employees of the lima bean plant, which was located on the wharf at Hueneme, appears in a 2005 history of Port Hueneme.[8]
No record has been found that Effie Cawelti ever married or had any children.
Effie L. Cawelti of Camarillo, California, 88, died in Ventura County on 20 Jan 1975.[2][3] Her gravestone at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura is inscribed with the dates 1887-1975.[9]
