Children:[3][4][5]
  • John Chamnis,[3] born 1700, married (1) Elizabeth Taylor, (2) Sarah Lee[4] 1700 birth may not be correct, as the 1717 will of his father implies he was of age at the time (making birth year c1696 or earlier)

  • William Chamnis,[3] born c1705, married Agnes[4]

Henry Chamnis died after October 31, 1717 (date of will) and before June 9, 1719 (date will entered for probate by executors Robert Bolling and Mary Chamnis, Prince George County, Virginia).[6][7]

His widow Mary, signed an agreement "recorded 1/11/1720" with her father, John Moor, to maintain him. She married (2nd) John Denhart before "3/8/1725".[4]

Notes:

Henry's will bequeaths "my carpenters tools" to son John and "a" set of coopers tools to son Henry.[3]

Research Notes

The following was previously the biography for Chamnis-1 (roman text; comments in itals). Sources that had been listed for the biography[9] are inadequate for the information in the biography. ~ Noland-165 16:06, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Henry, son of Jon Chamnis, was born Chamnis and became known as Henry Chambliss. unsourced statement and likely not true, since it is believed that the Henry who died between 1717 and 1719 (date of will/will proved date) signed his will Chamnis, according to the transcription.

Marriages of Henry, the son of John Chamnis:

about 1690 #1 Mary Boling. They had at least 1 child born in Sussex County, Virginia. He gave custody of this son Henry to Mr. Robert Boling.
Profile for Chambliss-14 shows parents of this Henry (d 1717/1719) as John and Mary (Bolling) Chambliss. In his 1717 will, Henry identified a guardian, Wm. Robert Bolling, for his son Henry if his wife should remarry and "cannot rule the children". He's really naming a guardian for the estates he left his sons Henry and William, since they were not yet 21 at the time of his will (note he does not name guardians for Nathaniel and Jacob, who are probably "his two youngest sons").
Note also... other profiles say this Henry (with the 1717 will) is son of Ann Abbott; his father's profile is attached to "Ann" (Unknown), with marriage year of 1658; this Henry, died 1717/1719, is said to have been born in 1660.
About 1690/1699 Henry m. #2 Mary Moore b. abt 1664 Prince George Virginia Colony. She was the daughter of John Moore. both Henry & John Moore were in the shipping business.
Listed as son of his first marriage:
  1. Henry Chamliss (II), m Frances Wayne, d. 23 Aug 1784 Brunswick County, Virginia. They had 8 children:
  1. Jacob
  2. Mary Chambliss
  3. Frances Chambliss
  4. John Chambliss
  5. Robert Chambliss
  6. Joshua Chambliss
  7. Silvia Chambliss m. Mr. Whitehead
  8. Joel Chambliss
Henry I & Mary [Moore] had at least 7 children, all born Prince George County, Virginia Colony
  1. John R. Chambliss (the elder)
  2. Elizabeth Betty Taylor
  3. William Chambliss b. 1704 d 1874
  4. Mary Chambliss b. 1706
  5. Ann Chambliss b. 1708
  6. Nathanial Chambliss b. 1710 d. 1761
  7. Jacob Chambliss b. 1712
  8. Elizabeth Chambliss b. 1714

Henry's will dated 31 October 1717, entered for probate 1719, gives custody of his 1st son Henry II to his grandfather to be his guardian until he is of age. What the will actually says:

"Item. My will and pleasure is that if my wife marry, and cannot rule the children that Wm.Robert Bolling shall have my son Henry, and be his Guardian, and my son William to Hugh Golightly, till they come to age, and their Estates with them."

Children, take 2

The following is from Ancestry and other essentially unsourced trees (in other words, the children listed need to be confirmed with better sources):
Henry Chambliss and Mary Moore's children:
Note: Birth dates of the three Marys indicate that Henry and Mary (Moore) Chambliss had three daughters they named Mary; at least two died young. No dates with multiple Roberts, but it's possible Henry & Mary had two sons named Robert also, with one or both dying young. Also, the footnote now attached to son Henry had been given as a source for his father. Duplicate profile for Henry (Chamnis-1) has list of children from Will and an unsourced list under Research Notes.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Henry by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Henry:

this profile appears to be a bit muddled compared to the profile it's proposed to be merged with, which shows Henry as the son of John Chambliss/Chamnis & Mary Bolling, and Henry's wife as Mary Moore. That Henry's son Henry is father of Silvia Chambliss who married Mr. Whitehead.

text for this profile says Henry m #1, Mary Boling, c1690 & #2, Mary Moore, c1664.

The 1717/179 will of Henry, with wife Mary, does not identify Robert Bolling as his son Henry's grandfather.

I intend to edit this profile to try to clarify the information in it... It also appears that the only source is the will - http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/princegeorge/wills/chamnis1.txt - which does not support all the information in this profile/its connections. Please add additional sources if you have them. Thanks!

Chamnis-1 and Chambliss-15 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth, parent, child, death

I believe Elizabeth Chambliss born 1707 died 1747 was Elizabeth Taylor Chambliss who married John Chambliss, son of Henry Chambliss and Mary Moore. Their two daughters Elizabeth overlap (1698-1765 and 1707-1747). Does anyone have information that might reveal what date is wrong? (Or which might be someone else's daughter?)
